How Are these Rolls Different to Normal Croissants?
Croissants are a popular French pastry that is made with a laminated dough. The dough is layered with butter through a process of folding and rolling, which gives croissants their signature flaky texture.
On the other hand, croissant bread rolls are more similar to a traditional Parker house roll or dinner roll. The dough used to make croissant bread rolls is made from flour, yeast, butter, milk dough similar to that of a milk bread roll.
What Makes these Bread Rolls Have Such a Fluffy Texture?
The ingredients used in these bread rolls play a crucial role in determining the texture and flavour of the final product. Here’s a breakdown of what each ingredient does in the dough:
- Flour: Flour is the main ingredient in bread rolls and provides structure to the dough. The gluten in flour forms a network that traps air and allows the dough to rise when it’s baked.
- Yeast: Yeast is a microorganism that ferments the dough, producing carbon dioxide gas that causes the dough to rise. This results in a light and airy texture.
- Sugar: Sugar provides food for the yeast and helps to activate it. It also contributes to the tenderness and flavour of the bread rolls.
- Milk: Milk adds richness and tenderness to the dough. The fat and protein in milk contribute to the bread rolls’ soft and tender texture.
- Butter: Butter adds richness and flavor to the bread rolls. It also helps to create a soft and tender texture by coating the gluten strands and preventing them from forming a tight network.
By combining these ingredients in the right proportions and following the correct baking techniques, it’s possible to create bread rolls that are light, fluffy, and delicious.
