Isn’t Millionaire Shortbread the same as a Twix?
In some ways, yes. Essentially, Twix is a layer of biscuit, chewy caramel and covered in a thin layer of chocolate, basically the same as a caramel shortbread. However, I would say that millionaire’s shortbread have a much more superior flavour profile compared to Twix; both the shortbread and caramel tastes a lot better (more enhanced) and the chocolate is more crisp, adding more sophisticated layers of texture to the dessert.
This is why Millionaire’s Shortbread is called ‘millionaire’s shortbread’, it produces such a decadent, luxurious and wealthy experience with every bite which is associated with only being achievable by a millionaire.
Well, this millionaire shortbread recipe is the best and easiest caramel shortbread, attainable by any type of baker. Experienced or beginner, you can whip up this delicious dessert in under an hour and a half.
Should you store Millionaire Shortbread in the Fridge?
Storing your caramel shortbread in the fridge will essentially allow it to last longer without going bad. You will also gain a more satisfying bite as textures become more diverse i.e. similar to if you left a chocolate bar in the fridge compared to room temp.
How do you cut Millionaire’s Shortbread without it Cracking the Chocolate top?
Here are a few tips:
- use a serrated knife when cutting, using slow and continuos motions
- make sure you chocolate and caramel layers have fully set before cutting otherwise everything will ooze out the sides
- use a warm knife, this will melt the chocolate slightly, allowing you to cut through pieces with more ease
- mark out where you want the squares to be before cutting- this just makes it easier to visualise where you are cutting
When making this recipe I used a very specific square pan which came with dividers that you can use to help cut the shortbread out.
Here is a similar square baking tin with dividers and here is a square silicone mould which could also work here.
