How is Focaccia different from regular Bread?
Firstly, what is focaccia? Well, focaccia is a flat, oven-baked, Italian originated bread. The texture of focaccia is very light, crispy and ’pizza-like’ yet extremely soft and fluffy at the same time. It is often served as an accompany with pasta or salads.
How can I serve Focaccia?
Focaccia can be served in so many ways so really your imagination is the limit. But in case your not feeling creative, here are are a few ideas:
- Focaccia pizza- add a splash of tomato sauce, buffalo mozzarella and toppings of choice on top, before baking and you’ll have a pizza pie no one will be able to resist.
- Garlic Bread Focaccia- Mix 2 tbsps of melted salted butter with 1-2 cloves of minced garlic and some parsley. Spread this mixture all over the top of your dough before baking. Now you have an irresistibly cheesy garlic focaccia, perfect for sharing with all your friends and family.
- Go Crazy with Toppings- this recipe is really just a base that you can place whatever you would like on top. My personal fave is parmesan cheese but you can’t go wrong with olives, chives, bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, or even caramelized onions.
- Accompanying a Soup or Salad- Cut up your focaccia into squares and place in a bread basket. Now you can serve your delectable bread alongside your favourite tomato soups, caprese salads and even pastas like tuna pasta bakes, mac n cheese, creamy tomato pasta and much, much more.
Should I serve my Bread Hot or Cold?
You can serve you bread hot, cold, lukewarm, whatever suits you and your meal. My personal fave is right out the oven, when the crust is still crispy and warm.
How long does Focaccia Last?
Focaccia is kept best when kept in an airtight container and kept in a cool, dry place. This way it can last up to 3-4 days. However, my recommendation is always to eat within the first or second day of baking for the most enjoyable, fluffiest focaccia bread bite every time.
